PPS-GF40 (Fortron)

Celanese · Fortron 1140L4

Fortron 1140L4 is a polyphenylene sulfide with 40 percent glass fibre and one of the most widely used PPS grades available. It combines a high continuous service temperature with inherent flame retardancy and very good chemical resistance.

These values are taken from the manufacturer datasheet and apply to the material, not to the printed part. In 3D printing the achievable properties depend on part orientation, layer height and process parameters – in the Z direction in particular they are lower. Please talk to us before relying on them for design.

“Qualified for functional parts” is a general classification. A functional part can be a simple clip or a main load-bearing member – the forces and load cases differ fundamentally. We therefore always assess in each individual case whether a material is suitable for your part.

Strengths

  • Very high continuous service temperature
  • Inherently flame retardant without added flame retardants
  • Resistant to virtually all chemicals below 200 °C
  • Very good dimensional stability with low creep

Limitations

  • Brittle, with low impact strength
  • High processing temperature – demanding to process
  • 40 percent glass fibre is strongly abrasive
