PEEK CF30 is the highest-performing material in our range: a carbon-fibre reinforced polyetheretherketone with very high stiffness at roughly one fifth the density of steel. We process it on the InnovatiQ TiQ8.

The manufacturer determined these values on printed specimens rather than injection-moulded ones, which makes them considerably more meaningful than typical datasheet figures. Note the orientations given: values in the layer plane (X, or XY and XZ) are considerably higher than those across the layers (Z, or ZX). Part orientation has to match the load direction – we are happy to advise.

“Qualified for functional parts” is a general classification. A functional part can be a simple clip or a main load-bearing member – the forces and load cases differ fundamentally. We therefore always assess in each individual case whether a material is suitable for your part.

Strengths

  • Very high stiffness: over 18,000 MPa tensile modulus in the layer plane, measured on printed specimens
  • Continuous service temperature up to 260 °C – the highest in our range
  • Resistant to virtually all chemicals found in industrial use
  • FAR 25.853 compliant, so usable for aircraft interior applications
  • Substantial weight saving compared with metal parts

Limitations

  • Very low elongation at break of 2 % – the material is brittle, so snap-fits and spring elements are unsuitable
  • By some margin the most expensive material in our range
  • High processing temperatures at nozzle and build chamber – at our site processed by filament on the InnovatiQ TiQ8 only
  • The carbon fibre is abrasive and increases nozzle wear
  • Pronounced anisotropy: strength in the Z direction is well below that in the XY plane – part orientation has to match the load case
