PARA-GF50

Solvay · Ixef 1524

Polyarylamide with 50 percent glass fibre – one of the stiffest thermoplastic materials available. Ixef is known for metal-like stiffness and, unusually for a highly filled material, a very smooth surface.

These values are taken from the manufacturer datasheet and apply to the material, not to the printed part. In 3D printing the achievable properties depend on part orientation, layer height and process parameters – in the Z direction in particular they are lower. Please talk to us before relying on them for design.

“Qualified for functional parts” is a general classification. A functional part can be a simple clip or a main load-bearing member – the forces and load cases differ fundamentally. We therefore always assess in each individual case whether a material is suitable for your part.

Strengths

  • Exceptionally high stiffness and strength
  • Very smooth surface for a highly filled material
  • Halogen- and bromine-free flame retardancy: UL 94 V-0 at just 0.4 mm, oxygen index 37 %
  • A genuine metal substitute under static load
  • Comparative tracking index above 600 V – suitable for live environments

Limitations

  • Very brittle: 1.9 % elongation at break means practically no plastic deformation before fracture
  • Hygroscopic, careful drying required
  • 50 percent glass fibre is strongly abrasive
  • Pronounced anisotropy, part orientation is decisive
