PA6-GF30

BASF · Ultramid B3EG6

Polyamide 6 with 30 percent glass fibre – the standard for load-bearing plastic parts. Roughly twice as stiff as unfilled PA6, but distinctly more brittle. One of the most widely used engineering plastics there is.

These values are taken from the manufacturer datasheet and apply to the material, not to the printed part. In 3D printing the achievable properties depend on part orientation, layer height and process parameters – in the Z direction in particular they are lower. Please talk to us before relying on them for design.

“Qualified for functional parts” is a general classification. A functional part can be a simple clip or a main load-bearing member – the forces and load cases differ fundamentally. We therefore always assess in each individual case whether a material is suitable for your part.

Strengths

  • High stiffness and strength at low weight
  • Good dimensional stability under load
  • Very well documented standard material
  • Economical even in larger quantities

Limitations

  • Brittle – unsuitable for snap-fits and spring elements
  • Hygroscopic, drying is mandatory
  • Pronounced warping tendency, large flat areas are critical
  • Abrasive to nozzle and screw
