PA6-GF30 (impact modified)

LyondellBasell · Schulamid 6 GF30 HI

A glass-fibre reinforced PA6 modified for impact resistance. Compared with a standard GF30 it absorbs knocks considerably better and is less prone to fracture, at only slightly lower stiffness and strength. The datasheet also lists good chemical and oil resistance.

These values are taken from the manufacturer datasheet and apply to the material, not to the printed part. In 3D printing the achievable properties depend on part orientation, layer height and process parameters – in the Z direction in particular they are lower. Please talk to us before relying on them for design.

“Qualified for functional parts” is a general classification. A functional part can be a simple clip or a main load-bearing member – the forces and load cases differ fundamentally. We therefore always assess in each individual case whether a material is suitable for your part.

Strengths

  • Impact modified: notched impact strength of 22 kJ/m² dry and 40 kJ/m² conditioned, well above a standard PA6-GF30
  • Tough in the cold as well: 14 kJ/m² notched and 80 kJ/m² unnotched at −30 °C
  • Stiff and strong despite the modification: 8,000 MPa modulus and 135 MPa stress at break (dry)
  • Good chemical and oil resistance according to the datasheet
  • High tracking resistance (CTI 550) for parts in electrical equipment

Limitations

  • Slightly lower stiffness and strength than a standard PA6-GF30
  • Hygroscopic, drying required; properties depend on moisture content
  • Warping tendency on large flat areas
  • Abrasive to the machine hardware
