PA6-GF15

BASF · Ultramid B3EG3

Polyamide 6 with 15 percent glass fibre – the entry point into reinforced polyamides. Noticeably stiffer and more dimensionally stable than unfilled PA6, yet still appreciably tougher than the highly filled grades.

These values are taken from the manufacturer datasheet and apply to the material, not to the printed part. In 3D printing the achievable properties depend on part orientation, layer height and process parameters – in the Z direction in particular they are lower. Please talk to us before relying on them for design.

“Qualified for functional parts” is a general classification. A functional part can be a simple clip or a main load-bearing member – the forces and load cases differ fundamentally. We therefore always assess in each individual case whether a material is suitable for your part.

Strengths

  • A good compromise between stiffness and residual toughness
  • More dimensionally stable than unfilled PA6
  • Widely used standard material with a solid data basis
  • Economical in series production

Limitations

  • Hygroscopic – drying before printing is mandatory
  • Tendency to warp on large flat parts
  • The glass fibre is abrasive to the nozzle
  • Lower impact strength than unfilled PA6
