HDPE-Compound (TP201)

Sika · SikaBiresin TP201

High-density polyethylene – the classic choice for outdoor use and chemically loaded parts. HDPE is considered barely printable by filament; via the pellet process with a large build chamber it becomes manageable.

These values are taken from the manufacturer datasheet and apply to the material, not to the printed part. In 3D printing the achievable properties depend on part orientation, layer height and process parameters – in the Z direction in particular they are lower. Please talk to us before relying on them for design.

“Qualified for functional parts” is a general classification. A functional part can be a simple clip or a main load-bearing member – the forces and load cases differ fundamentally. We therefore always assess in each individual case whether a material is suitable for your part.

Strengths

  • Low shrinkage and little warping according to the manufacturer
  • Very good properties at low temperatures, resistant to impact loads
  • Weather resistant and resistant to many chemicals
  • Weldable to standard PP materials, printed parts can be milled

Limitations

  • Preliminary datasheet – Sika is still testing the material for practical suitability
  • Limited temperature resistance (HDT B 110 °C)
  • Low stiffness and strength, only conditionally suitable for load-bearing parts
  • Hard to paint or bond without pre-treatment
