FPO/PP (TP103)

Sika · SikaBiresin TP103

SikaBiresin TP103 is a reinforced polyolefin on a polypropylene base with increased thermal conductivity – a property few 3D printing materials offer. Sika designed the range explicitly for pellet extruders and complex mould-tooling applications.

These values are taken from the manufacturer datasheet and apply to the material, not to the printed part. In 3D printing the achievable properties depend on part orientation, layer height and process parameters – in the Z direction in particular they are lower. Please talk to us before relying on them for design.

“Qualified for functional parts” is a general classification. A functional part can be a simple clip or a main load-bearing member – the forces and load cases differ fundamentally. We therefore always assess in each individual case whether a material is suitable for your part.

Strengths

  • Increased thermal conductivity – a rarity in 3D printing
  • The highest heat deflection temperature in the TP range at around 150 °C
  • Low shrinkage and little tendency to warp
  • Finished parts can be milled – hybrid manufacturing is possible

Limitations

  • Polyolefin base: barely bondable or paintable without pre-treatment
  • Lower stiffness than glass-fibre reinforced engineering plastics
  • Limited resistance to non-polar solvents
