FPO/PP (TP102)

Sika · SikaBiresin TP102

A reinforced polypropylene with good outdoor durability, designed by Sika for pellet extruders. The reinforcement compensates for the biggest weakness of PP – its low stiffness – and at the same time substantially reduces shrinkage.

These values are taken from the manufacturer datasheet and apply to the material, not to the printed part. In 3D printing the achievable properties depend on part orientation, layer height and process parameters – in the Z direction in particular they are lower. Please talk to us before relying on them for design.

“Qualified for functional parts” is a general classification. A functional part can be a simple clip or a main load-bearing member – the forces and load cases differ fundamentally. We therefore always assess in each individual case whether a material is suitable for your part.

Strengths

  • Good weathering resistance for outdoor applications
  • Considerably stiffer and more stable than unfilled PP
  • Low shrinkage, little warping and very good dimensional stability according to the manufacturer
  • Low part weight with good chemical resistance

Limitations

  • Limited temperature resistance (HDT B 85 °C)
  • Lower strength than fibre-reinforced engineering plastics (yield stress 28 MPa)
  • Poor adhesion of paints and glues without pre-treatment
